Synopsis
For Better and for Worse (Un homme heureux, 2023) is a French comedy from Tristan Séguéla that you can watch online on iFILM. Jean, the conservative mayor of a small town, is gearing up for re-election on a platform of family values.
Then his wife Edith — the picture of a devoted homemaker — drops a bombshell after forty years of marriage: deep down she has always felt like a man, and she wants to begin her transition. For a politician running on the traditional family, the timing could not be worse. Ever the loving spouse, Edith offers a deal: she'll hold off until the votes are counted. Trouble is, a campaign runs on gossip and dirty laundry, and a secret like that won't stay in the closet for long.
Fabrice Luchini and Catherine Frot carry the whole thing as the central couple, with Philippe Katerine and Artus alongside. Séguéla takes a sensitive subject and runs it through farce without tipping into caricature or a lecture — it's funny, but underneath the laughs sits a real talk about acceptance and how much other people's opinions are worth. One for fans of French humor with a double bottom. Stream For Better and for Worse (2023) online on iFILM.
