Synopsis
En nombre del amor (2008) is a Mexican telenovela from Televisa that you can watch online on iFILM. At its heart are the sisters Macarena and Carlota, whose lives are bent out of shape by loving the same man, and their devout aunt Carlota Espinosa de los Monteros, who runs the household as a tyrant behind a mask of piety.
It opens as a story of youth, with Allisson Lozz and Altaír Jarabo as the young leads and Leticia Calderón scheming as one of the most memorable villains on Mexican TV. Then the show jumps years ahead — Victoria Ruffo and Arturo Peniche take over the grown-up roles, and the buried secrets come up for air: hidden pregnancies, switched children, forbidden love. The genre boxes all get ticked along the way. Showy prayers, slaps, separated lovers, and a reckoning that reaches the villain far too late for the people she ruined.
The series is a remake of the classic novela Cadenas de amargura, directed by Karina Duprez and Fernando Nesme, and it ran on Univision in the States all the way to a two-hour finale.
