Synopsis
Drácula (1931) is the Spanish-language version of Universal's classic horror, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Director George Melford shot it on the very same sets as Tod Browning's famous English Dracula — but after dark, once the daytime crew had gone home.
The story follows Bram Stoker's novel. A young Englishman travels to Transylvania on a property deal and ends up trapped in Count Dracula's castle. The count drives him mad, turns him into a servant, and sails to London to hunt the city's high society. Carlos Villarías plays Dracula; Lupita Tovar is his target, Eva.
For decades this cut was almost impossible to see. When a surviving print resurfaced, plenty of critics decided it actually looked better than the daylight version: the camera roams more freely, the takes run longer, and the shadows — and the necklines — push further than 1931 usually dared. A genuine curiosity for anyone into early sound-era horror. Stream Drácula (1931) online on iFILM.
