Synopsis
This Gun for Hire (1942) is a Frank Tuttle film noir you can watch online in good quality. Hired killer Philip Raven (Alan Ladd) has no warmth for people, plenty for kids and cats. When a club operator named Gates pays him off in marked bills, the job turns personal.
Raven sets out to find the man who set him up. On the train out of town he ends up next to Ellen (Veronica Lake), Gates' new employee — and the fiancée of the very detective chasing him. Instead of running scared, she tries to reach the closed-off gunman while he dodges the police and lines up his revenge.
Adapted from Graham Greene's novel, the picture is one of the cornerstones of early Hollywood noir. It also lit the fuse on the Ladd-Lake screen team that Paramount would ride for years.
