Synopsis
The Mirror Crack'd (1980) is a British mystery you can watch online on iFILM, adapted from Agatha Christie's novel by director Guy Hamilton — the man who made Goldfinger. The cast alone is worth the runtime: Elizabeth Taylor, Kim Novak, Rock Hudson, Tony Curtis, and Angela Lansbury as Miss Marple, all in one film.
A Hollywood production has descended on the quiet English village of St. Mary Mead to shoot a period epic. The glamour is surface-deep: the stars loathe each other, old grudges travel with the crew, and the smiles at the welcome party are all teeth. When a local woman drinks a cocktail meant for the lead actress and drops dead, the police are baffled. Miss Marple, watching from the corner of the room, has already started connecting the pieces.
Hamilton keeps the tone dry and sharp — the murders are almost secondary to the pleasure of watching a gallery of enormous egos collide. Lansbury's Marple is no fragile spinster; she dissects people with the same calm she'd apply to a particularly tricky bit of knitting. Stream The Mirror Crack'd online on iFILM.
