Synopsis

D.O.A. (1949) is an American noir directed by Rudolph Maté — watch it online on iFILM. Frank Bigelow walks into a police station to report a murder. The victim is himself. Someone slipped him a slow-acting poison; he has roughly 24 hours before it finishes the job, and he intends to spend them finding out who and why.

Edmond O'Brien plays Frank as a man running on adrenaline and fury. He retraces every step from the previous day — who he spoke to, what he signed off on, which names keep coming up. Each answer leads somewhere darker. Pamela Britton is Paula, his girlfriend who refuses to stay behind even when the trail gets violent.

Maté builds the whole picture around a single ticking clock, and that constraint makes every scene count. The concept is almost too clean: a detective with 24 hours to solve his own murder. It still works. Stream D.O.A. (1949) online on iFILM.
