Synopsis
Valley of the Dead (Malnazidos, 2020) is a Spanish horror-comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Directors Javier Ruiz Caldera and Alberto de Toro drop a zombie outbreak into the middle of the 1938 Spanish Civil War — where a Nazi experiment has turned the dead on both sides into something far worse than the enemy trenches.
Francoist captain Jan Lozano faces a firing squad unless he delivers a classified dispatch through enemy territory. His only transport: a young Republican deserter with nothing to lose. They hate each other immediately and completely. Then they get captured by the other side, and then the corpses start moving, and suddenly their ideological differences feel less urgent. Aura Garrido, known internationally from Money Heist, leads the resistance alongside Miki Esparbé in a cast that handles both the horror beats and the dark comedy with equal ease.
