The Responder (2022) is a BBC crime series starring Martin Freeman that you can watch online on iFILM. Chris Carson works urgent-response night shifts across Liverpool, and he is quietly falling apart.

Debt, a marriage in pieces, pressure from his bosses and the dirty deals he took on to stay afloat — Chris hauls all of it into every shift. He's handed a rookie partner, Rachel, and over one long night her by-the-book idealism slams into how a cop on the edge actually survives the street. Every call is a small disaster: drugs, missing people, domestic chaos with no clean way out.

The scripts come from Tony Schumacher, a former Liverpool officer, and it shows — the dialogue and the moral dead-ends carry no gloss. Freeman plays hard against his likeable image; his Chris is exhausted, furious and guilt-ridden all at once. It's a tight, claustrophobic drama for anyone who likes a lead with no easy answers.
