Rest Stop

Nicole and her boyfriend Jess are driving from Texas to Los Angeles when they pull off onto an old back road. She steps into a roadside restroom for a minute. When she comes back out, Jess and the car are gone. Circling the area is a battered yellow truck, and the man behind the wheel treats her terror as a game she has to survive until dawn.

Director John Shiban came off The X-Files, and he trades plot twists for grimy, hopeless atmosphere out where no one can hear you scream. It's an early lead for Jaime Alexander, years before she became Sif in the Thor films. A mean, often genuinely ugly slasher for horror fans who don't expect a tidy ending.
