Little Longnose

Little Longnose (2003) is a Russian animated feature directed by Ilya Maksimov, based on the fairy tale by German Romantic author Wilhelm Hauff — watch it online on iFILM. Jacob, a cobbler's son, insults a strange old woman at the market and pays dearly: she turns him into a hunchbacked dwarf and keeps him as a cook for seven years, stripping away his memory of who he used to be.

When Jacob finally escapes, no one recognises him — not his mother, not the neighbours. He must find a way back with the help of a goose named Mimi, a princess trapped under the same curse. Viktor Sukhorukov and Ivan Krasko provide voices. Understated and faithful to Hauff's original, it works equally well for children and for adults returning to the story.
