Synopsis
Battle in Seattle (2007) is a drama you can watch online, reconstructing the five days when a peaceful march turned into street chaos.
Late 1999: the World Trade Organization brings its ministerial conference to Seattle, and thousands of activists pour into the city to shut the talks down. The film follows several lives at once — the protest organisers, a mayor losing his grip, a cop handed orders that keep getting harsher, reporters, and the WTO delegates themselves. What begins as a rally hardens by nightfall into clashes, tear gas and a citywide state of emergency.
It's the directing debut of actor Stuart Townsend, working with a deep ensemble: Charlize Theron, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Rodriguez, Ray Liotta as the mayor, André "3000" Benjamin and Channing Tatum. Townsend shoots it raw, almost like reportage, cutting in real news footage from the week. One for viewers drawn to street politics and the cost of mass protest.
