Strangeness

The celebrated writer Luigi Pirandello comes back to his native Sicily and gets stuck — his new play just won't come. At a local festival he meets two gravediggers who stage amateur theater with their troupe in their off hours. The bumbling, eager pair fascinate him, and they hand him the spark for one of the twentieth century's defining plays, Six Characters in Search of an Author.

Andò builds a sly film about how art grows out of a chance meeting and provincial chaos. Servillo plays Pirandello with restraint and mischief, while the comic duo Ficarra and Picone balance the drama with earthy, knockabout humor.
