Synopsis
Saints and Soldiers (2003) is an American independent war drama directed by Ryan Little, shot in desaturated tones and available to watch online on iFILM. December 1944, the Ardennes. A group of American POWs is gunned down near Malmedy. Five soldiers survive and find themselves alone deep inside German-held territory — no weapons, no supplies, no radio.
The squad is an uneasy mix. Deacon, played by Corbin Allred, is a devout soldier whose faith complicates every life-or-death moment. The others bring their own fractures — a cynic, a grieving man, and a British airman, Kirby Heyborne, who is carrying intelligence that Allied command needs urgently. Getting that information through enemy lines is the only mission that matters now. Trust, between men who barely know each other, turns out to be the hardest terrain to cross.
Made on a tight budget outside the Hollywood studio system, the film found a wide audience and remains one of the more thoughtful American entries in WWII independent cinema. It earns comparisons to understated European war films — interested in exhaustion and moral weight more than battlefield spectacle. Stream Saints and Soldiers (2003) online on iFILM.
