Black Holes: The Edge of All We Know
The quest to understand the most mysterious object in the universe.
Synopsis
Black Holes: The Edge of All We Know (2020) is a science documentary from Peter Galison you can watch online on iFILM, set right at the boundary of what physics can explain.
The film runs along two tracks. One follows the Event Horizon Telescope team, who linked observatories across the globe into a single Earth-sized instrument to capture the first-ever image of a black hole in April 2019 — a picture later seen by billions. The other sits with Stephen Hawking and his collaborators as they wrestle with a paradox: do the usual laws of physics still hold where space and time are bent past breaking?
Galison, a Harvard historian of science, cares less about the money shot than about how discovery actually happens at the edge of knowledge. It is also one of the last projects Hawking took part in. Made for anyone who finds real astrophysics more gripping than any effect. Stream Black Holes: The Edge of All We Know (2020) online on iFILM.
