Synopsis
Lyudmila Pavlichenko killed more than three hundred enemy soldiers. Battle for Sevastopol (2015) — watch online on iFILM — is Sergei Mokritsky's war drama built around that record: the most lethal female sniper in military history, played by Yulia Peresild.
The film follows Pavlichenko from the early defence of Odessa through a besieged Sevastopol, losing people around her and finding love in the middle of it — Yevgeny Tsyganov plays the officer closest to her. By 1942, the Soviet command pulled her from the front line to Washington, where she addressed American crowds about what it means to keep waiting for a second front while others bleed for it. Eleanor Roosevelt befriended her on that tour and later called her one of the most remarkable people she had ever met.
The film wears its melodrama openly — the love story is earnest and the combat sequences restrained rather than spectacular. Peresild carries the role without turning it into a monument. Stream Battle for Sevastopol online on iFILM.
