Synopsis
Mack & Rita (2022) is a fantasy comedy from director Katie Aselton, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Thirty-year-old writer Mack Martin has always felt older than she is — happier in a robe with a book than at any loud party. During a friend's bachelorette weekend in Palm Springs she climbs into a strange rejuvenation pod and wakes up as a seventy-year-old woman.
On the outside she's now a silver-haired lady; inside she's still Mack, just done pretending. Calling herself Rita, she finds things she never had before: the nerve to say what she thinks, a new lightness, and an unexpected wave of social-media fame. There's even a romance she'd never have let herself chase in her old body. Diane Keaton plays Rita, Elizabeth Lail the younger Mack, with Dustin Milligan and Loretta Devine in support.
Aselton spins a gentle fable about how self-acceptance comes easier once you stop chasing other people's expectations. The whole thing rests on Diane Keaton, and watching her here is a pure pleasure.
