Synopsis
Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969) is Paul Mazursky's satirical comedy, and you can watch it online on iFILM. California at the tail end of the sixties, everyone talking about freedom, and two married couples deciding to test the new rules on themselves.
Bob (Robert Culp) and Carol (Natalie Wood) come back from a weekend encounter group sold on total honesty and open marriage. They promptly dump every confession on their straitlaced friends Ted (Elliott Gould) and Alice (Dyan Cannon), who listen first in polite horror, then in plain curiosity. Before long all four end up in one bed, discovering that preaching free love is a lot easier than climbing into it.
Mazursky's directorial debut became a defining film about the sexual revolution and earned four Oscar nominations, with supporting nods going to Gould and Cannon. Funny, squirmy, and surprisingly tender — a comedy that laughs with its characters' confusion rather than at them. Stream Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969) online on iFILM.
