Synopsis
The Butterfly's Dream (Kelebeğin Rüyası, 2013) is a Turkish historical drama to watch online on iFILM. In a coal town on the Black Sea coast, during the years a vast war was already swallowing Europe, two young poets write verse as if there were no tomorrow — which is more or less what their doctors keep telling them.
Rüştü Onur and Muzaffer Tayyip Uslu were real writers, played here by Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ and Mert Fırat. Both are sick with consumption, both are broke, and both fall for the same well-off young woman (Farah Zeynep Abdullah) and for the idea of poetry itself. Belçim Bilgin plays the teacher whose letter once nudged them toward writing. Against the mines, the coal dust and the sanatorium beds, the two friends strike an almost boyish wager: to be read before their time runs out.
Yılmaz Erdoğan directed, wrote the script and took a role on screen. The story is reconstructed from the poets' lives and letters — names well known in Turkey, barely heard of beyond it. Warm light, the retro texture of the 1940s republic, and an ending it earns honestly rather than sweetening. It lands for viewers who like big feeling, old-fashioned films about poets, and Turkish drama that skips the soap-opera shortcuts. Stream The Butterfly's Dream online on iFILM.
