Synopsis
Lost Girls & Love Hotels (2020) is William Olsson's drama you can watch online on iFILM. American expat Margaret has run from herself all the way to Tokyo, teaching diction to trainee flight attendants by day and dissolving into the neon city by night — its dive bars, strangers and love hotels rented by the hour.
Alexandra Daddario plays a woman methodically drowning her pain in alcohol and other people's beds. Everything tilts when she falls for Kazu (Takehiro Hira), a quiet, magnetic Yakuza; the affair is forbidden, dangerous and doomed from the first glance. Meanwhile a rumor spreads about a missing girl who looks unsettlingly like Margaret, and that echo makes her own unraveling harder to watch. Carice van Houten turns up in a small role.
Adapting Catherine Hanrahan's novel, Olsson shoots self-destruction as something slow and sensual, with no moral and no rescue at the end.
