The Kashmir Files

The Kashmir Files (2022) is Vivek Agnihotri's historical drama, available to watch online on iFILM. It reaches back to the winter of 1990, when thousands of Kashmiri Pandits abandoned their homes in the Valley under threat from armed militants.

A student named Krishna has always been told his parents died in an accident. His grandfather, played by Anupam Kher, hands him a far darker version of events. Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi appear as figures whose clashing accounts pull the young man apart. Rather than a tidy timeline, the director assembles the story out of survivor testimony, much of it staged to feel like raw recollection.

The result is unsparing, and it set off fierce argument over where remembrance ends and political messaging begins. Made on a modest budget, it pulled in numbers almost nobody predicted.
