Synopsis
Wilde Maus (Wild Mouse, 2017) is an Austrian-German comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Josef Hader wrote, directed, and stars — a triple act that pays off: his Georg is a Viennese music critic who gets abruptly fired after decades at the same newspaper and tells absolutely no one.
His wife Johanna, a psychotherapist preoccupied with fertility treatment, has no idea. Georg leaves the apartment each morning and drifts through Vienna — half-heartedly shadowing the editor who axed him, cooking up revenge schemes that grow steadily more elaborate and absurd. The comedy lives in the gap between the man he used to perform and the one who's left standing, and Hader plays both sides without angling for sympathy.
The film competed at the 2017 Berlinale. Dry, specific, and quietly cruel in the way the best Central European comedies manage to be. Stream Wilde Maus online on iFILM.
