Synopsis
Berlin Calling (2008) is a German music drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Hannes Stöhr. It follows a Berlin club DJ in the days before the biggest record of his life. Real-life techno producer Paul Kalkbrenner plays the lead, essentially a version of himself.
DJ Ickarus has a new album ready and a world tour booked. The clubs blur together — Berlin, Tokyo, one set bleeding into the next — and the drugs keep the nights running. His girlfriend and manager Mathilde tries to hold him together. Then an overdose onstage lands him in a psychiatric ward, where he has to rebuild himself far from the booth, under the eye of a no-nonsense head doctor.
The real draw is Kalkbrenner's own soundtrack; the Berlin Calling album became a fixture of the electronic scene and still sells today. Few films about club life are shot this far from the inside — no gloss, no lecture, just the high and what it costs. It hits hardest for techno fans and anyone drawn to honest stories about burning out. Stream Berlin Calling (2008) online on iFILM.
