Spanish director Amando de Ossorio opens the film on a grim backstory: the Knights Templar of Berzano were hanged for devil worship and human sacrifice, and crows ate out their eyes while the bodies dangled from the gallows. Seven centuries later, they rise again. Sightless, they track their prey by sound alone.

A group of vacationers stumbles into the ruins of the Templars' monastery and triggers what follows. De Ossorio made four Blind Dead films; this first one is still the most unsettling — slow-burn dread, skeletal knights on horseback shot in slow motion, almost no dialogue.
