Synopsis

Michael Rogers is a restless young drifter with a fixation on a piece of land locals call Gipsy's Acre — a place with a bad reputation that nobody can quite explain. When he meets wealthy heiress Fenella Thomsen and they marry quickly, Michael suddenly has the money to build the house he's always imagined. A celebrated architect draws up the plans, they move in, and things start going wrong in ways that feel wrong before you can name them.
Christie wrote this one differently from her Poirot and Marple novels — no detective, no tidy clues, just an atmosphere of something badly off beneath the surface.
