Synopsis
Land of the Blind (2006) is a British-American political thriller you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Robert Edwards. The story arrives as a confession: soldier Joe narrates from a prison cell, which tells you from the first frame that whatever ideals sent him there did not survive the journey.
Joe is assigned to guard a political prisoner named Thorne. Ralph Fiennes plays Thorne as a man absolutely certain he is on the right side of history — eloquent, magnetic, and very good at making other people agree. Donald Sutherland plays the ruling dictator Cédric Villancoeur, decadent and contemptible in exactly the ways that make Thorne's arguments land. Tom Hollander rounds out the central cast. Joe eventually crosses the line, helps orchestrate a coup — and then watches what the new order does with its victory.
Edwards sets the film in a deliberately unnamed country and era, keeping the allegory clean. The result is less an action film than a study of how an ordinary man signs onto an atrocity while believing he is serving justice. Stream Land of the Blind online on iFILM.
