This Way Up (Seasons 1–2)

This Way Up (2019) is a British tragicomedy you can watch online on iFILM. Áine is in her early thirties and has just left a clinic after what she jokingly calls "a teeny little nervous breakdown." Now she has to piece her life back together while convincing everyone she is perfectly fine.

She teaches English to immigrants, tutors a French boy on the side, and slowly falls for the kid's father, a guarded widower. Watching over her is older sister Shona, who carries Áine's whole world on her shoulders and is quietly burning out herself. The jokes come fast, but loneliness and the fear of slipping again hide behind every other punchline. Aisling Bea, who created and wrote the show, plays the lead; Sharon Horgan is her sister.

Two short seasons of six episodes each, made for Channel 4. This is comedy used as medicine rather than distraction — funny enough to take the sting out of the hard parts.
