Whores' Glory

Whores' Glory (2011) is an Austrian documentary by Michael Glawogger — watch online on iFILM. The film moves across three countries and three different versions of the same trade, with no narration and no editorial position imposed.

In Bangkok, women wait behind bright glass for clients to choose them — an arrangement so normalised it barely registers as unusual on either side. In Faridpur, Bangladesh, a madam haggles over a teenage girl with the practiced calm of a market negotiation. In Reynosa, Mexico, women addicted to crack pray to Santa Muerte, a folk saint who has become the patron of those the official world has left behind. Glawogger holds long, still takes and lets the distance do the work.

This is the third film in his loose globalization trilogy, following Megacities (1998) and Workingman's Death (2005). Glawogger died unexpectedly in 2014, making this among the last films he completed. Stream Whores' Glory online on iFILM.
