Synopsis
"ReMastered: Devil at the Crossroads" (2019) is a Netflix documentary — watch it online on iFILM. Director Brian Oakes profiles Robert Johnson, the Mississippi blues guitarist who died at 27 in 1938 with only 29 recordings to his name and a legend that he traded his soul at a crossroads for the ability to play.
Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Bonnie Raitt, Keb' Mo', and Taj Mahal each describe what Johnson's playing opened up for them as musicians. Oakes doesn't argue for or against the myth — he traces the real man: two recording sessions in a San Antonio hotel room in 1936 and 1937, the songs that came out of them, and why the crossroads story refused to die.
