Synopsis
Keith Richards: Under the Influence (2015) is a music documentary you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Morgan Neville. The film traces where Richards' guitar sound actually came from — Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, the American blues that a teenager from Dartford, England somehow got hold of and spent the next sixty years rewiring.
The structure is part studio diary, part oral history. Richards is recording his solo album Crosseyed Heart, and conversations with Tom Waits and Buddy Guy run alongside the sessions. The talk stays close to the craft: tunings, borrowed licks, what it means to take something and make it yours.
Neville, whose 20 Feet from Stardom took the documentary Oscar, has a particular skill for letting musicians discuss process instead of mythology. Richards cooperates fully — relaxed, dry, more interested in showing you how the riff works than in explaining why it matters. It's a small film about a very specific thing, and that specificity is exactly what makes it worth watching. Stream Keith Richards: Under the Influence (2015) on iFILM.
