Synopsis
The Broken Landlord (Züğürt Ağa, 1985) is a Turkish comedy-drama directed by Nesli Çölgeçen, available to watch online on iFILM. Şener Şen — later to become one of Turkish cinema's most beloved performers — plays the title role.
In the village of Haraptar, the local agha marries off his elderly father to the young Kiraz. The old man dies on their wedding night. Then things really fall apart: drought, interference from Kiraz's scheming brother Keçkeç Salman, peasants deserting the fields for Istanbul. The agha sells up and follows — only to find the city has no use for a man whose entire identity was the land. His money goes, then his furniture, then his wife and family.
