Synopsis
Ann Hui's "A Simple Life" (桃姐, 2012) is a Hong Kong drama you can watch online on iFILM. Deanie Ip plays Ah Tao, a domestic worker who has served the same family for sixty years — steadily, without complaint.
After a stroke, Ah Tao decides to retire and move into a care home. Her employer Roger — a film producer played by Andy Lau — finds himself visiting more often than expected, slowly realizing how little he knew about the woman who raised him. Screenwriter Roger Lee based the story on his own amah. Hui shoots without sentiment or dramatic machinery: long quiet scenes, small gestures, two people navigating care and gratitude in a language they never formally learned.
