Tristana

Don Lope presents himself as a progressive, a freethinker who scorns bourgeois convention. Then he takes in his young ward and makes her his mistress. Tristana escapes with Horacio — and that ought to be the end of the story. It isn't. What follows is darker and stranger: a woman who survives her own damage, returns, and finds that power can run in more than one direction.
