Synopsis
Spinning Boris (2003) — watch online on iFILM, a political comedy-drama directed by Roger Spottiswode. Jeff Goldblum, Anthony LaPaglia and Liev Schreiber play the American consultants who were secretly brought to Moscow to rescue Boris Yeltsin's 1996 re-election campaign, when the president's approval was stuck in single digits.
The conditions come at the airport: surrender your passports, no calls home, and you will not meet Yeltsin in person. George Gorton, Joe Shumate and Dick Dresner agree anyway, and set about reinventing a candidate the Russian press had already written off — running the operation from a guarded hotel suite. The film is grounded in fact; a real team of American spinners quietly ran the campaign, and the secrecy was real.
