Alice and Martin

Martin (Alexis Loret), the illegitimate son of an industrialist, was raised in the countryside by his wealthy father. He shows up in Paris after fleeing the family home under circumstances he refuses to explain, landing at his half-brother's apartment. Alice (Binoche), a musician who shares the flat, falls into a relationship with him — quickly and without much warning. The more she tries to understand what he is concealing, the more Martin retreats. The film is less a love story than a study of how long two people can hold on when one of them won't open.
