Quebec, winter 1940. Jules has just moved north with his family and is kept out of school because of a rare skin condition. His dog is his only company — until the animal runs off into the forest and Jules goes after it. Deep in the woods he meets Asha, a young indigenous girl with her own reasons to stay out of sight. Together they venture further in, and what they find goes beyond frozen rivers and old-growth trees: someone wants Asha's people off their land.
