Synopsis
Russian Symphony (1994) — a Russian arthouse parable to watch online on iFILM, directed by Konstantin Lopushansky, a former assistant to Andrei Tarkovsky known for Letters from a Dead Man.
The protagonist discovers that children have been left behind in a sinking school and sets out to save them. Nobody helps. The effort slowly unmoors him. As one catastrophe follows the next, a disturbing suspicion takes shape: none of this quite feels like disaster. It feels staged — as if someone has arranged these events and hasn't bothered to share the rules.
Lopushansky builds the film as a theological thought experiment — the Last Judgment arriving quietly in contemporary Russia, dressed as ordinary collapse. Viktor Mikhailov carries the lead; Valery Garkalin and Andrei Krasko appear in support. Demanding, deliberately uncomfortable cinema that refuses to let the viewer settle.
