Firecrosser

Firecrosser (2012) is a Ukrainian historical drama directed by Mykhailo Illienko — watch online on iFILM. The original Ukrainian title, Той, хто пройшов крізь вогонь, means "The One Who Passed Through Fire."

Ivan Dodoka flew combat missions, downed German aircraft, and was decorated as a Hero of the Soviet Union. Then he was captured. Coming back to his own side meant nothing to a system that read "prisoner of war" as "traitor": the sentence arrived quickly, and the labour camp followed. He escaped, crossed borders, kept moving. The biography ends somewhere no invented character would be sent: decades later, a First Nations community in northern Canada gave him a new name.
