Synopsis
Wild Field (Dikoe Pole, 2008) is a Russian drama by Mikhail Kalatozishvili you can watch online on iFILM. A young physician named Mitya runs a lone medical post in the middle of the Kazakh steppe, two hundred kilometres from the nearest town.
Patients walk for hours to reach the only doctor around. They bring him wounds, quarrels and private griefs, and he treats them all with whatever happens to be on the shelf. Between cases Mitya waits for the woman he loves, who promised to leave the city and join him. The steppe keeps its own rhythm, and the days blur into one long horizon.
Built from the final screenplay by Pyotr Lutsik and Aleksey Samoryadov, the film plays like a quiet parable about a man living at the edge of the inhabited world. Oleg Dolin underplays Mitya so calmly that the ending lands like a slap. It took home Russia's Nika award. Stream Wild Field (2008) online on iFILM.
