Sante Moras used to be a cop; now he pulls shifts as a prison guard. When an inmate convicted of a girl's brutal murder turns up dead on Sante's watch, the blame lands squarely on him. Commissario Tommaso Lago is already certain of his guilt. With a conviction closing in, Sante realises the only way out is to dig up the truth himself, before the verdict drops.
He finds an ally in Fabiana Lai, a journalist chasing the same case, and together they uncover facts that flip the whole thing on its head. It's a contained whodunit where the accused becomes the investigator, the bare Sardinian landscape doing as much for the unease as the plot. Argentero plays a hunted man no one believes.
