Synopsis
Eugene Telegin (2025) is an auteur drama by Viktor Tikhomirov that you can watch online on iFILM. He adapts his own book, "Evgeniy Telegin and Others. A Poem in Prose" — and the title's echo of Pushkin's Onegin is entirely deliberate.
The film is assembled from the author's own memories: chance meetings, small events, fragments of a life lived. Childhood impressions bleed into walks through the Summer Garden and musings on Pushkin, then into rehearsals of the rock band Aquarium and conversations with Sergei Kuryokhin and Viktor Tsoi. There's no straight plot here — instead, a portrait of Leningrad's bohemia seen from the inside by someone who belonged to it. Evgeny Tkachuk takes the lead role.
Tikhomirov is a painter and writer first, and his take on the era reads more like a canvas than a biography. The film runs two and a half hours and clearly speaks to viewers who value slow, personal cinema and have a soft spot for the Soviet underground of the 1980s. Rated 18+.
