The Great Seljuks (Season 1)
Synopsis
The Great Seljuks (Uyanış: Büyük Selçuklu, 2020) is a Turkish historical epic you can watch online on iFILM. The story spans the 11th and 12th centuries, when the Seljuk Empire controlled lands from Central Asia to the Middle East. The main threat isn't a rival army on an open battlefield — it's Hassan-i Sabbah, founder of the Assassin order, who built a network of operatives embedded inside every court.
Sultan Melikşah, played by Buğra Gülsoy, and his field commander Sencer, played by Ekin Koç, fight an enemy that looks like a courtier by day and strikes at night. Hatice Şendil and Gürkan Uygun carry the personal threads — loyalties tested by politics, alliances that carry a body count. The writing gives as much weight to statecraft as to combat: how do you govern when the threat is already inside your own walls?
A TRT production with the visual ambition the network has brought to period drama: detailed costumes, large-scale sets, wide battle sequences. Fans of Diriliş: Ertuğrul will recognize the format, but the timeline here sits roughly two centuries earlier — the Seljuk era that laid the groundwork the Ottomans later built on.
