A maidservant named Liu Ying rescues a snake on a roadside errand — which turns out to be a thousand-year-old dragon, Yuchu Longyan. He decides to repay her by proposing marriage. Their story then plays out across three separate lifetimes: each incarnation brings them back together, and each finds a new reason to keep them apart.
