Synopsis
Nemurubaka: Hypnic Jerks (2025) is a Japanese musical dramedy you can watch online on iFILM. It follows two dorm roommates drifting along somewhere between classes, part-time work and band practice.
Yumi Irisu clerks at a second-hand bookshop, digs through other people's old paperbacks and barely says a word out loud. Her older roommate Ruka Kujirai sings in a band, is perpetually broke, and fills every room she walks into. There's no real plot engine here — just a string of small days: late-night talks, awkward gigs, cheap meals, silences and things left unsaid. Out of that fabric comes a portrait of twentysomethings who haven't yet decided who they'll be.
Director Yugo Sakamoto steps away from his trademark action and shoots a quiet sketch adapted from the manga of the same name. The music isn't background; it's how these two say what they have no words for. This is one for fans of slow Japanese slice-of-life, built from sleepless student nights.
