Synopsis
Linda Linda Linda (2005) is Nobuhiro Yamashita's music-driven comedy-drama, free to watch online on iFILM. Three days before the school festival, a girls' rock band has just fallen apart.
A broken finger and a couple of arguments leave only guitarist Kei, drummer Kyoko and bassist Nozomi standing. No singer. Almost on a whim, they stop a Korean exchange student named Son (Bae Doona) in the hallway — her Japanese is shaky — and ask her to take the mic. She says yes. What follows is seventy-two hours of frantic rehearsal in an empty classroom, foreign lyrics drilled until they stick, and a shared dread of bombing on stage. The song they have to nail: "Linda Linda" by the legendary punk band The Blue Hearts.
Yamashita keeps the drama low: long takes, awkward silences, the town at night, and a slow build toward the gig. Bae Doona plays it all in half-tones and quietly anchors the whole film. It's a gentle, charming watch for anyone who loves coming-of-age stories about music and friendship. Stream Linda Linda Linda (2005) online on iFILM.
