Il Re (2022) is an Italian crime drama you can watch online on iFILM. Bruno Testori runs the San Michele maximum-security prison the way a feudal lord runs a territory: with his own laws, his own punishments, and an absolute certainty that he alone understands justice.

Testori (Luca Zingaretti) has built something that functions like a private state inside those walls — inmates and staff alike operate by his rules. When the body of his longtime friend and colleague Nicola Jaccarino is found in a cell, Testori shuts everything down and investigates himself. The problem is that whoever is responsible operates at a level beyond his reach.

Directed by Giuseppe Gagliardi, the series is tightly controlled and deliberately paced. Zingaretti — known internationally as Inspector Montalbano — plays a very different kind of character here: not a detective, but a man whose absolute certainty about his own righteousness is what makes him so unsettling.
