Synopsis
Ladies in Black (2024) is an Australian period drama series you can watch online on iFILM. The setting is Sydney at the turn of the 1960s, and the place is Goodes — a grand department store where shy sixteen-year-old Lisa takes a summer job and walks straight into a world run by women in black uniform dresses.
Director Gracie Otto threads several stories at once. The older salesgirls teach Lisa how to fold a frock and, more quietly, how to figure out what she actually wants. Outside the store, postwar immigration, new fashion and shifting ideas about a woman's place are remaking the whole country. The series adapts Madeleine St John's novel, previously brought to screen by Bruce Beresford.
