A Hero of Our Time (2007) brings Lermontov's novel to the screen, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Alexander Kott tells the story of officer Grigory Pechorin, exiled to the Caucasus after a duel.

Igor Petrenko plays Pechorin, with Elvira Bolgova, Yuri Kolokolnikov and Sergei Nikonenko beside him. The plot moves through the chapters everyone half-remembers from school: the mountain girl Bela, the smugglers in Taman, the doomed Princess Mary, a pistol shot at the edge of a cliff. But this is a flesh-and-blood man now — clever, cold, tired of himself. He toys with other people's fates and empties himself out first.
