Synopsis
"War and Peace" (2007) is a four-part miniseries you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Robert Dornhelm as a French-Italian-Russian co-production that aired across European networks in autumn 2007. Tolstoy's novel is the source: Russia between 1805 and the fall and burning of Moscow in 1812.
Three lives anchor the story. Pierre Bezukhov (Alexander Beyer) — illegitimate heir to a fortune who cannot figure out what to do with it or himself. Natasha Rostova (Clémence Poésy) — a girl growing up faster than she chose to, against the backdrop of war. Prince Andrei — the soldier who stopped believing in glory. Malcolm McDowell, Brenda Blethyn and Dmitry Isayev round out a wide international ensemble.
What this version brings that Soviet adaptations never had: the outsider's gaze. A European cast reading Tolstoy changes what the story feels like — cooler, more detached, closer in tone to a chamber drama than a heritage spectacle. Stream "War and Peace" (2007) online on iFILM.
