Rector (Season 1)

Rector (2024) is a comedy-drama about science and fear that you can watch online. Lavrenty Timoshin — Lavrik to everyone — runs a biochemistry lab and has spent years chasing a cure for fear, starting with his own.

Lavrik is scared of nearly everything: a breakthrough, his mother's temper, falling in love, and the reforms creeping toward his research institute. The reforms arrive on schedule. The long-serving rector, Bogomolov, decides to hand the chair to a younger man, and the obvious pick is Lavrik himself. The real question is whether the promotion helps his work or buries it, once the upheaval reaches well past his career. The farce sits on top of a surprisingly honest portrait of anxiety.

Directed by Roman Fokin, the series stars Vladimir Kanukhin, Elena Morozova, Mikhail Gorevoy and Daniil Spivakovsky. It's a good fit for anyone who sees themselves in a perpetually second-guessing hero and likes humor that laughs with its characters, not at them. Stream Rector online on iFILM.
