Her whole inner circle is one friend, Nadya, and a stuffed ferret named Leonid. Then a doctor drops the news: early menopause, a single viable egg left, one last shot at a child. So Rita sets out to find a man who could pass for a father. Along the way she meets the odd Taras and keeps circling back to the rough childhood that shaped who she became.
